Hammer player of the decade
Guardian is going for Payet. 2 seasons? One outstanding? We could argue over criteria of how to judge this, but, on a quick glance, I go for Noble. Heartbeat.

Manuel: I said in opening the thread that it does depend on your criteria. May posters have expressed their criteria. You can do that if you wish.

Re: Hammer player of the decade
The least worst player, preferably one who didn't fuck off after one season.
Mark (Marky, Nobby, Nobies Nobbly) Noble - the skipper, the gipper, the kipper.
Barely a premiership player but then we are barely a premiership team

Exactly. Most talented player is clearly Payet, by a mile. Contribution over a decade it’s Noble. No one else even close.

Re: Hammer player of the decade
People don't even know what this actually means, does it mean who has consistently been our best player in 10 years or who has been the best player at any one time? Don't know do you, nor do I. Farcical.

If we're talking about the whole decade, rather than any one bit of it, then Noble.

The fact that Nolan made the top ten is rather depressing sums up the decade

*slight problem regarding Di Canio it would appear.

PAYET.. NO RIVAL

Him and Di Canio by some way the best in modern times.

Got to be Payet. Did more extraordinary, world-class things in that one season than every other player combined in the last ten seasons.

That statement sounds so ridiculous that it has to be a gross overstatement, but it isn’t.

Didn't know you filmed that - great video. That's quite possibly me screaming.

Talking of Payet's OT goal - I'm not usually the sort to video things but just had a feeling that day...

I'd have had Parker right up there if he hadn't cried off our last few games with a minor knock to secure his move to Spurs. We got relegated. What a cunt.

Re: Hammer player of the decade
You could compile a list of the 20 best ever goals scored by West Ham and Payet could conceivably be in a half a dozen of them

The payet season was amazing. But it was just one season. Player of the decade based on that shows you what dross we’ve had playing for us in recent times. Noble for me, reliable and committed if not spectacular.

My mate had just nipped down to the chicken run carsey for an impromptu turnout when that goal went in...

Re: Hammer player of the decade
Others have mentioned that Palace free kick and it was genuinely incredible. I have watched it many times since and still can't understand how he did it, and I remember at the time celebrating and my Dad nudging me and pointing to the screen so I could see the replay, and it was simply not possible. But for me his greatest moments were Middlesbrough, and the free kick against Man Utd which was an exact copy of his one against Blackburn and he actually turned away to start celebrating whilst the ball was still in the air - he knew what he was doing and he knew it had worked and that even the best keeper in the world (at the time) couldn't do anything about it. The man was an absolute genius and a massive cunt but one does not take away from the other. His comeback from injury against Liverpool - the whole crowd singing and then he comes on and twists and turns and they could not get near him. I remember in the 2016 Euros the threads on here asking whether we had the best player in the world. We didn't, but he was at that time in the discussion. Without doubt he was the most talented player since Di Canio/ Joe Cole, but he shone too briefly to be considered in the context of the whole decade. Our best player of the decade? Without a doubt. But the decade started with Noble alongside, yes, Parker but also Boa Morte, Kovac, Spector, Faubert, Ilunga...that he is still in the team and has been under every manager since says a lot. In terms of most influential, Noble will be up there with Bonds and Dicks in the future.

Payet all day long.

There’s only ever been a few World class players at West Ham, and he transformed our performances like no one else has in the last decade.

I've watched that free kick many times and I sill don't understand how he did it.

The ball didn't travel in the same way any other ball I've seen kicked did/does. It seemed to start off too high and then behaved like a beach ball and changed its mind multiple times as to what it wanted to do next. Then it clipped the underside of he bar and went in.

Hardly surprised the Palace keeper looked a bit bemused.
